After beating off stiff competition we were appointed in spring 2007 to design House of Fraser’s London office. We carried out very detailed staff interviews to ascertain how they would like to work in the new building which was quite a tall task given that they had been in Victoria for more than 20 years. We aided House of Fraser in the selection of the new building – 27 Baker St through critical building appraisal and test planning of a number of buildings. The building comprises just under 5,000m2 (51,000 sq.ft) over 7 floors and is the workplace of 450 staff providing a modern, clean and dynamic environment. Within the building there is a staff café, meeting and training facilities, plus tailored spaces for the departments to include dressing rooms, range review rooms and spray booths. Storage has been key – storing items from lipsticks, handbags, clothes to lamps and sofas. The client moved in Easter 2008 and is thrilled with their new office.
